How Lighthouse Literacy can help:

With my experience and expertise in both Special Education and providing specialized reading instruction, Lighthouse Literacy Pathways can help your struggling reader. Through the implementation of an explicit, systematic, and multimodal instructional approach, students will build foundational reading and literacy skills that they will carry with them throughout their lives.

Evidence shows that the majority of students learn to read better with structured teaching of basic language skills, and that the components and methods of Structured Literacy are critical for students with reading disabilities including dyslexia.

I provide Structured Literacy instruction based on an Orton-Gillingham methodology and instructional approach. Instruction focuses on the five pillars of literacy:

  • Phonological Awareness | The awareness that words are composed of sounds
  • Phonics | The ability to recognize letter-sound relationships in words
  • Fluency | The ability to read with speed, accuracy, and proper expression
  • Vocabulary | Word-meaning strategies predict comprehension
  • Comprehension | Understanding the meaning of text and integrating it with previous knowledge
